Techniques to influence your (level of) consciousness
during sleep :
Train yourself to remember your dreams, and to experience the dreams at a more conscious level, by :
§ Writing down your experiences straight after you wake up. Try to do this every time after you have slept. It might be difficult at first - f.i. because you can hardly remember what you dreamt about - but the more you write down your experiences, the easier this will get. Also, you may not always have the time to do this. But it is important that you then try and make the time for it.
Write down your dreams in as much detail as you can. The small details can be most relevant. Don’t forget to also note down how you felt during a (part of the) dream. The emotions which a (part of an) experience brings about are often a big part of a dream and can therefore say a lot about what you have experienced and why!
Start by writing down the key-words/-phrases of your experience. You may not always have the time to write down the whole account straight after you wake up, and also might start forgetting parts of your dream while you are writing. You can use these key-phrases as a reference as you write down the dream in detail.
§ Intention;
You place the intention to do/achieve that which you want to do/achieve
You can place such intentions in waking state and when you are asleep (if you are conscious enough to do this then ofcourse).
It is possible to influence what you experience during sleep by intention. Try stating (preferably out loud) what you wish to do, where you want to go, just before you go to sleep. But don’t just wish it, STATE it. (with intent); “I am going to ….. when I’m asleep”.
Waking-state intentions can be, for example :
“I WILL be(come) conscious during sleep”,
“I WILL remember my dream(s)”,
“I WILL go to ….. (person, place you wish to go to)”.
When you posess enough awareness during sleep to do so, you can also make use of intention while physically asleep, for example :
“Awareness NOW”,
“Higher self NOW”,
“Clarity NOW”,
“Vision NOW”.
(I have used these phrases on many occasions while Out Of Body (O.O.B.), and they do work!)
§ Affirmations;
Affirmations are also a very good tool in heightening your level of consciousness, and in increasing your sense of control over that which you are experiencing.
They are repeated positive statements placed in the present tense. And they can be verbal, non-verbal, or written.
Examples of affirmations are :
“I am now out of body!”,
“I am here!”,
“I can do it!”, etc…
You can write down both your intentions and affirmations on paper, which you place somewhere in full view, so that they keep ‘reminding’ you of your objectives and strengthen your confidence in that you CAN experience the non-physical dimensions.
§ Re-reading the written accountsof your experiences can also add to your awareness during sleep. It can also lead to insights you didn’t yet recognize (pick up on) at the time you wrote down your experience.
§ Signs;
Think up a certain sign (f.i. putting up your thumb), and associate this sign with becoming more conscious during a dream. It will operate as a trigger, in that when you use this sign while dreaming your level of awareness will heighten. Of course you will need to be conscious enough during your dream in order that you are able to think of giving yourself this sign.
§ Check reality;
While you are awake, ask yourself this: “Is this a dream??”
When you ask yourself this while in this physical reality, it will help you in the growing
realisation that both the waking and the sleeping states are real.
